UMC Encourages Community to Schedule Mammogram Appointments

EL PASO, Texas – University Medical Center of El Paso is urging women in the Borderland community to prioritize their health and schedule a mammogram this October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

A mammogram is an important annual exam that uses an X-ray to detect cancer. Beginning Sept. 15 through the month of October, all women 40 years and older, whose last mammogram was prior to Nov. 1, 2024, are eligible to utilize the Wellness Mammogram Initiative offered at UMC Main Campus, UMC West Clinic, UMC East Clinic, and UMC Northeast Clinic.

UMC’s Wellness Mammogram Initiative makes screening easier by eliminating the need for a physician’s order, allowing for women to schedule a mammogram without a referral.

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the U.S. and the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women.

Prevention is key. Screenings and readings are covered by most insurances or available for just $50 for those who are self-pay or uninsured.
