WHAT: The New Mexico Office of Archaeological Studies is hitting the road to show and explain New Mexico history in a hands-on exhibit at community libraries statewide.

WHY: We’re bringing history home for New Mexicans. We will have one of three programs at each library: either a rock art lesson and make-your-own-petroglyph activity, a lesson on Native American ceramics with a paint-a-replica-potsherd activity, or a lesson on archaeology and New Mexico history.

WHEN/WHERE:

  • June 17, Questa Library, 9:30-11:20 a.m. rock art program and create your own petroglyph
  • June 18, Gallup Library, 3:00-5:00 p.m. rock art program and create your own petroglyph
  • June 21, Bernalillo Library, 10:00-11:00 a.m. rock art program and create your own petroglyph
  • June 24, Main Library, 2-4 p.m. Learn to play a traditional Native American game and create a copy to take home
  • June 25. Ft. Sumner Library, 1:00-2:00 p.m. learn about ancient and not-so-ancient ceramic art and paint your own replica potsherd

WHO: The program is free to all schools across the state. For more information on this free program, contact Ziggy Prothro, Education Coordinator with the Office of Archaeological Studies, ziggy.prothro@dca.nm.gov, or 505-476-4421.
