In response to continued severe flooding across the region, El Pasoans Fighting Hunger sent a truck carrying 24 pallets of emergency supplies to the South Texas Food Bank.
The shipment is scheduled to arrive at the South Texas Food Bank in Laredo by 8 a.m. Friday, July 24. It includes:
10 pallets containing 840 disaster-relief boxes
10 pallets of drinking water
1 pallet of diapers
1 pallet of baby wipes
2 pallets of toilet paper
The South Texas Food Bank reports that recent flooding has affected communities across 75 percent of its service area. Flooding, damaged infrastructure, and road closures continue to create challenges as local officials and relief organizations assess needs and support families through the recovery.
EPFH coordinated directly with the South Texas Food Bank and through Feeding Texas, which organizes mutual aid and resource-sharing among food banks across the state. That coordination helps match verified needs with available food, water and essential supplies so assistance can move quickly and efficiently.
“Food banks are first responders to hunger even when disasters occur outside of service-area lines,” said Kris Yagel, interim CEO of El Pasoans Fighting Hunger. “Our responsibility starts here in the Borderland, but when another Texas food bank tells us families need help and we have the capacity to respond, we answer the call.”
