El Paso, Texas, July 26, 2024 – El Paso Community College (EPCC) Cosmetology Department hosted their annual ‘Power of Pink’ event today at the EPCC Cosmetology, Nail Tech and Massage Departments in the EPCC Administrative Services Center.
EPCC teamed up with health partners UMC, Providence, Del Sol Medical Center, William Beaumont Breast Cancer Awareness Program, and the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation to provide local cancer survivors with beauty makeovers and gifts.
The Cancer survivors were treated to a hair style, then makeup and nails, all done by EPCC students, followed by a professional picture, snacks and gifts by sponsors.
“I feel very blessed and overwhelmed with the love and support. I feel like a woman, and it’s wonderful,” Cancer Survivor Daniela Barton said.
Professional pictures were offered to the patients free of charge. EPCC Cosmetology, Nail and Massage will hold a kickoff party on September 27 where the pictures will be added to display boards and showcased at all of the local hospitals in the community. This leads into October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.
This event started in 2005 and is getting bigger and better every year. “It’s always positive. It’s listening for our students is something that is really important, because they learn how to address any circumstances, and how our field makes the guest feel important, and can appreciate what our work is,” EPCC Nail Technology Instructor Graciela Roman said.
About EPCC Cosmetology
Most beauty schools will offer a basic cosmetology curriculum that includes training in hair, skin and nails. EPCC’s Cosmetology program goes a step further by including non-technical training to help students develop the necessary people skills that will define their success in the professional salon industry. Unlike traditional classroom settings, EPCC provides classroom and salon instruction, and the training facility is a full-service salon environment where students practice hair care and styling, nail care and make-up applications.
In as little as 3 semesters, a student will have the opportunity to learn from industry experts, explore trends and techniques, and work with real clients. Additionally, the curriculum is designed to help students prepare for the licensing exam.
