El Paso Texas, September 21, 2022 – The El Paso Community College (EPCC) Diversity & Inclusion Programs hosted the 21st Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta (HHM Fiesta). This year’s theme was Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.
The Fiesta took place, September 21 in the Cafeteria Annex and Courtyard of the Valle Verde Campus. The host of the event was Karla Mariscal, news anchor for Telemundo 48. The main Keynote Speaker was Mr. Chibbie Orduna, spoken word artist. This year’s community mentor, Donna Muñoz (EPCC English Instructor), was honored during the HHM Fiesta.
For entertainment, Arturo Guerrero (Singer of La Voz México), Folklorico, EPCC students and staff performing, Da Vinci Mariachi, Capoeira El Paso, EPCC Los Tejanos Mariachi by Dr. Amgela Morgan-Thorton and in the Courtyard, the participants had the opportunity to play Giant Jenga, ball toss, mini golf and other games.
This year’s celebration will include Read-Ins that invite the public and students to read or perform a piece by their favorite Hispanic or Latin author. Read-Ins will be held in the Northwest Campus Library Multi-Purpose Room on Tuesday, October 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and in Rio Grande Campus Room A-119 on Wednesday, October 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The two best readings will win a signed copy of the book ¡Ándale Prieta! by Latina author Yasmin Ramirez.
