‘Alter Ego’ On and off the track: ‘Will the real NASCAR driver please stand up?’
Posted on 03. Sep, 2010 by admin.
Sometimes, when watching how NASCAR drivers react off the track compared to how they behave behind the wheel, the old TV game show “To Tell the Truth” comes to mind.
At the end of the game show, where a celebrity panel tries to decide which of the three people before them is the central character and which two are impostors, the host asks: “Will the real (the central character’s name) please stand up?”
Jeff Gordon, who usually is as pleasant and professional as can be outside the car, is at times a tiger behind the wheel.

The fairway woods
Posted on 03. Sep, 2010 by admin.
The biggest mistake I see amateurs make with the fairway woods is trying to hit up on the ball. They’re worried about getting the ball airborne, so they try to help it by lifting up with their bodies. Unfortunately, the result is just the opposite, a topped shot.
You can break out of this vicious cycle by trusting the loft of your fairway wood to do its job. Remember the key: Hit down on your fairway woods and take a divot!
The correct address position is very important to good fairway wood play, so here are some basics:

Minnelli Revisits Her Hollywood Childhood With a Quieter, More Intimate Album
Posted on 03. Sep, 2010 by admin.
With her bigger-than-life voice and a personality to match, Liza Minnelli never has been regarded as laid-back.
In a career that began with her Broadway debut at age 3 in 1949 and has since seen her win an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy, several Tony Awards and a “worst actress” Razzie, she always has seemed like an indomitable force of nature.

Perfect Approach to Restoration is Imperfection
Posted on 03. Sep, 2010 by admin.
Q: We are redoing the kitchen in our 19th-century brownstone. We took down the wall between the kitchen and breakfast room, but now we are worried that we’ve spoiled the character of the old house. What kind of cabinets and fixtures should we put in to be true to the time period?
A: Restoring a vintage home authentically requires painstaking research and careful editing of materials. Sure, the rest of us old-house lovers rejoice when new owners are willing to spend the time and money to recreate the right historic attitude.

Eat, Pray, Shop
Posted on 03. Sep, 2010 by admin.
It may just be a movie about one woman’s spiritual journey of self-discovery, but the latest film release of Elizabeth Gilbert’s “Eat, Pray, Love” book starring Julia Roberts has inspired many of us to celebrate our lives in a more reflective way … even in the clothes we wear. We may not be able to travel to India or Italy or Bali, but we can make the trek to Nordstrom and buy one of designer Sue Wong’s exotic new caftans. Or we can tune into the Home Shopping Network to pick up an exotic beaded prayer necklace.

Obama visits Ft. Bliss soldiers
Posted on 03. Sep, 2010 by admin.
On the day that the US formally ends combat operations that began in Iraq over 7 years ago, President Barack Obama visited Ft. Bliss to meet with soldiers. There was a small crowd of about 100 soldiers, soldiers’ families, and area VIPs there to greet him as he got off Air Force One at Biggs Field. The President was on the ground for a little over an hour to speak with about 180 soldiers in a closed ceremony. He also spoke privately to Gold Star families, those who have lost parents and spouses to the war in Iraq, including one Army wife who just days ago lost her husband.

Fashion Tips for the Last Days of Summer
Posted on 27. Aug, 2010 by admin.
As summer winds down, the heat is still on, but it’s not quite time to put away the bikinis yet, according to image consultant Marla Tomazin, who makes her career out of helping people look and feel good all year long.
“Image is so much more than clothes,” says Tomazin. “It’s what you project to others about yourself in your attitude, energy and demeanor. I believe that happiness can truly be found in the small, seemingly unimportant details of day-to-day life,” she says.

The Minutemen to replace Sheriff’s Deputies?
Posted on 27. Aug, 2010 by admin.
Trying to balance the budget for El Paso County on the backs of Sheriff’s Deputies is not an option, according to one lawmaker. In a contentious disagreement between County Commissioner Dan Haggerty and Sheriff Richard Wiles, Haggerty had suggested that one way for the department to shave off five percent from its annual budget would be to fire some deputies.
Wiles, who had no comment for this interview, had called Haggerty’s idea, “reckless and irresponsible.” Facing a $15 million budget shortfall, county officials are working to find ways to save money so that nobody has to be laid off, or put on furlough.

Cut to the chase: As final 10 approach, is Harvick the new pre-Chase favorite?
Posted on 20. Aug, 2010 by admin.
NASCAR’s Race to the Chase, the final regular season races that determine which 12 drivers will compete for the championship over the final 10 races, is down to three races – at Bristol Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway and Richmond International Raceway. And the big question now is whether points leader and Michigan winner Kevin Harvick has replaced four-time and defending champion Jimmie Johnson as the pre-Chase favorite.
After his dominating win at Michigan on Sunday – his third triumph of the season – Harvick clinched his spot in the 10-race run to the title.
