It’s that time of year for the annual Sun Bowl game in the Sun City. The 2017 game will mark the 84th anniversary of the Sun Bowl game and the 50th consecutive broadcast on CBS. The game features selections from the ACC and Pac-12 conferences. This year’s teams are the Arizona State Sun Devils and the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Both teams had outstanding seasons and will be an interesting matchup at the end of the month.
The Arizona State Sun Devils (7-5) will travel just over 400 miles to El Paso, Texas for a matchup with the No. 24 North Carolina State Wolfpack (8-4) in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 29, 2017 at 1 p.m. MT. This is Arizona State’s 30th trip to a bowl game and sixth to the Sun Bowl. ASU holds a 3-1-1 record in the Sun Bowl with a 14-14-1 bowl record overall. North Carolina State makes its first Sun Bowl appearance in the history of the program. The Wolfpack hold a 16-13-1 bowl record and will play in a bowl game for the fourth consecutive season.
For the last 83 years, the Sun Bowl has featured the color and pageantry that is college football. Seven of the top 10 winningest programs of all-time have participated in the Sun Bowl and 30 college programs that have won national championships in the past have appeared as well. Through the years, 38 Sun Bowls have been decided by a touchdown or less, including six of the last 11 games. Through its first 83 years, the Hyundai Sun Bowl has featured 78 different programs, more than any other bowl in the nation.
