Nearly 300 Soldiers from the 501st Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, are scheduled to return from Afghanistan on August 28th at 9pm at Biggs Army Air Field.
The 501st “Providers” deployed last December to join a combined military coalition comprised of more than 62 nations focused on promoting a secure and stable region.
The “Providers,” along with Coalition and Afghan Security Forces, performed several different missions oriented to respond to crises, defeat hostile extremists, and facilitate the smooth flow of operations in Afghanistan.
The 501st BSB worked under International Security Assistance Forces to assist the Afghan government through mentoring and training as U.S. Forces continue a responsible transfer of security to the Afghan National Security Forces.
Other similarly-sized units from the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division will return at various points between now and the end of summer / early fall time frame. Over 1,500 soldiers from 1st Brigade are still deployed in Afghanistan.
