4th Annual Art for Your Health SISD Student Exhibit at Sierra Providence Medical Center East

“We are delighted to be teaming up with Sierra Providence East again to display our students’ outstanding art work,” said Pat O’Neill, SISD interim Superintendent. “It is a great opportunity for the public to enjoy our students’ creative work in the excellent facilities at Sierra Providence East.”

“The students’ artwork is a welcomed addition to the hospital and we are honored to provide a venue for the exceptional pieces to be displayed and also open our doors to the community.” said Sally Hurt, CEO for Sierra Providence East Medical Center. “We are extremely proud of our relationship with the Socorro Independent School District and are pleased to be presenting the 4th Annual Art for Your Health for all of El Paso to enjoy.”

The artwork on display at Sierra Providence East has been chosen as “Best of Show for 2012” and will be displayed at the Socorro District Service Center for the next school year. There were over 1,400 entries submitted from 31 campuses for the Socorro Art Show competition in April. Students from Pre-Kindergarten through high school submitted work in the categories of:

•Painting

• Drawing

• Design

• Printmaking

• Sculpture

• Mixed Media

• Computer Graphics and Photography

• Craft

The art was judged by a group of past art teachers, local artists, and college art students. The district judging consists of a preliminary judging, choosing the top 12 pieces of work in each category. The second judging is of the top 12 pieces in each category and, of those pieces, first, second, and third place was awarded in each category. All 640 placing pieces of art work were displayed at the Socorro District Service Center for a week in May, ending with an open house for the parents and students.

The Best of Show display made up of 102 pieces were selected at the district show by separate judging. They have been framed and are currently on display at Sierra Providence East Medical Center. The display will open at the District Service Center starting August 20 and continue for the 2012-2013 school year.
