SUMMER LEARNING LOSS
Studies show that kids who remain engaged intellectually during summer vacation do better in school and in life. Similarly, kids who don’t take part in mentally stimulating activities during the summer regress academically, according to recent studies1, and the trend tends to affect minority children more.
The El Paso Public Library’s Summer Reading Club is a great way to keep kids mentally active during months when school is not in session. It’s easy to join, just register on Saturday, June 2 and check out as many books as you can read.
Then, visit the library often to take part in special summer programs such as karaoke, magic, comedy, video games and other cool stuff. Best of all it’s free.
There are clubs for kids of all ages so make plans to join. For more information call 543-5433 or visit www.elpasolibrary.org.
