El Paso, TX, August 9, 2011: Carlos Santana and the Santana Band will return to El Paso, September 16 at the Don Haskins Center with their (SOCC) Sound of Collective Consciousness Tour. The concert will feature special guest Michael Franti & Spearhead.
Carlos Santana has been performing in El Paso since 1996, and this will be his first appearance in three years. Carlos and the Santana Band will perform classics from the group’s four-decades-long career, and spotlight songs from Santana’s latest album, Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time¬ (2010, Arista Records). Carlos Santana has had a long and prosperous career culminating with his latest release – Guitar Heaven. Santana’s— Guitar Heaven is Santana’s 29th Billboard Top 200-charting release, 12th Top Ten album debut, and third Top 10 debut in the past five years.
Michael Franti is the creator and lead singer of Michael Franti & Spearhead. For more than two decades, the Bay Area-born Franti has built a diverse and inspiring repertoire of music, including his most recent release, The Sound of Sunshine—the highest Billboard 200 chart debut of his career.
Santana has been electrifying audiences for more than 40 years, from Woodstock in 1969 to the return to El Paso on September 16. Santana has never ceased to mesmerize audiences with his searing guitar work and rich guitar tones intertwined with his signature combination of multi cultural and multi genre styled penned songs. The group has sold more than 100 million records and reached more than 100 million fans at concerts worldwide. To date, Santana has won ten GRAMMY® Awards, including a record-tying nine for a single project, 1999’s Supernatural (including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Smooth”).
Carlos Santana is also involved with the Milagro Foundation which he and his family founded in 1998. The Milagro Foundation benefits undeserved and vulnerable children around the world by making grants to community based tax exempt organizations that work with children in the areas of education, health and the arts. The Milagro Foundation is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children. Fifty cents ($.50) from each ticket sold from the El Paso concert will benefit the Milagro Foundation.
