GETTING INTO DODGE Penske finds success as lone Dodge camp
Posted on 28. May, 2010 by admin.
When Dodge started the 2010 NASCAR season with just one team owner, Roger Penske, in the camp, many in the sport figured that the prospects for success were small.
After all, the conventional wisdom is the more the merrier. The thinking is that with more teams and drivers, there’s more technical information that can be gained and shared.
In the Chevrolet camp, Hendrick Motorsports provides engines and chassis for its own four teams as well as the two at Stewart-Haas Racing and some others as well. Richard Childress Racing and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing have a common engine shop. Roush Fenway Racing provides Ford equipment and engines for Richard Petty Motorsports.

PITCH PERFECT
Posted on 28. May, 2010 by admin.
One of my favorite students (yes, teachers have favorites just like parents do, although like parents, we never admit it) has come a long way in a year. Paul started with me as a 24 handicap who was really about a 30. He was ready to quit, he was so embarrassed by his game. Paul’s long game improved dramatically, but his pitching from 75 yards didn’t follow suit. Not only couldn’t he get it on the green, he was liable to chunk it 10 yards or scull it a 100.

Harmonic Convergence – With proper introductions, cats and dogs can get along
Posted on 28. May, 2010 by admin.
Can cats and dogs get along? While cats and dogs scheming against each other is a comedic staple, millions of real-life cats and dogs live in harmony, and millions of people feel no family would be complete without at least one of each pet.
Getting a dog and cat to accept one another can be difficult, though, as anyone who’s tried to introduce them knows. There are some basic steps to getting both pets to at least call an interspecies truce.

KIDS’ ATTITUDES SHAPED BY PREVIOUS GENERATIONS
Posted on 28. May, 2010 by admin.
FOCUS ON THE FAMILY with Dr. James Dobson
QUESTION: I have heard you say that we have shamefully mismanaged the present generation of children. Explain what you meant by that.
DR. DOBSON: I was referring to the many harmful influences that previous generations didn’t have to confront — at least not to the degree that we see today. That includes safe-sex ideology and violence and sexual imagery in movies, rock music and television; it refers to gang activity and drug abuse, and many other dangerous aspects of the culture.

Pack It In

Heading to the beach this summer? It’s never too early to start thinking about your packing “to-do” list. Put pencil to paper and come up with a plan. Get organized and create a vacation wardrobe with mix-and-match separates — plus a few great accessories — that will have you sipping margaritas when you reach paradise, not worrying about those fabulous gladiator sandals you left at home.

Ricky J. Carrasco: A photographer who wants to build a better world – one picture at a time
Posted on 28. May, 2010 by admin.
It took imagination, creativity, and not a little chutzpah for Ricky J. Carrasco to re-design a Mexican game known as La Loteria (the lottery) – a Mexican Bingo-like game that features pictures of Mexican icons instead of numbers. But, he did it. Carrasco re-designed the 54-card deck in the traditional game because, he says, his girlfriend’s mom inspired him when she dropped her traditional loteria game on the kitchen floor.

Richard Petty NASCAR’s King Racing pioneer, driver, owner still putting fans first.
Posted on 21. May, 2010 by admin.
It’s been nearly 20 years since Richard Petty drove in his final race, at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the 1992 season finale, but he’s still out there spending his golden years as an ambassador for NASCAR. And that’s in addition to the duties he’s taken on as the head of Richard Petty Motorsports.
But that’s nothing new for NASCAR’s longtime King. Lately, he’s been making the media rounds as part of his induction this weekend into the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. He also was the Grand Marshal for Sunday’s Autism Speaks 400 at Dover International Speedway.
In between all that, he took time to reflect on racing matters with members of the press at Dover.

Trouble with the face – Tiger Woods
Posted on 21. May, 2010 by admin.
In 2000, when Tiger Woods was almost unbeatable, he dipped his upper body down toward the ground during his downswing, and nobody said a word. Now that same move is being blamed for Tiger’s swing problems. Tiger himself talks about “being trapped,” as if his club path was the problem, but neither of these is the real problem.
So what exactly is wrong with his swing? He is baffled, his swing coach was baffled and so are most golf commentators.
I don’t know what’s wrong, either, but let’s put two and two together and see what we come up with.

San Diego Teen a ‘Jazz Piano Phenom’
Posted on 21. May, 2010 by admin.
It’s a good thing San Diego piano wiz Chase Morrin has the boundless energy of a teenager. Anyone with less drive and stamina might get tired just contemplating his nonstop schedule, let alone trying to pull it off.
Morrin, 16, is the leader of his own jazz trio and his five-man Latin Connection. He is also the pianist in the Ira B. Liss Big Band Jazz Machine, one of San Diego’s longest lived big bands, and in the Palomar College 7 O’Clock Jazz Ensemble, in which he is only one of three members who are not college students or graduates.
